Internet Librarian—help!
This blog rarely hosts up-to-the-minute reportage, but here it is: Internet Librarian is a bust!
Most everyone we see loves LibraryThing for Libraries and our new reviews feature (announced today)—but nobody's here! There are only two rows for exhibitors, and attendees aren't walking them. According to an unnamed source—unnamed because I don't know his name—attendance is way down this year.
So, if you're here, come by! We'd love to show you the remarkable new system we've built. And we've got laptop stickers, t-shirts and cuecats to give out. And we've got nothing to do tonight either. Last night Sonya and I had a business meeting at a Denny's.
Don't make us do that again!
Update: Things looked up for about 30 minutes.

wish I could go T_T but Canadians can't exactly march down there.
During the opening keynote, we learned that attendance was down 20%. I'd talked to a few vendors in advance, so I knew it'd be sparse in the exhibit hall too. I'll let you show me the new goods. Already shared your post about it with the boss.
So close and yet so far. It's a two-hour drive down there for me, so I can't go during the day (while the exhibit hall's open, and I'm working), and tonight there's no way. Will you be hanging around Wednesday or taking off as soon as it closes? I might be able to come down that evening...
I agree with mistymikok. If Internet Librarian were held in a location outside of the USA, I would be more inclined to attend. The hassle and risk of crossing into the USA is too great.
It's certainly very dangerous to come here. The poisonous dragons.... well, I won't speak of it.
Internet Librarian International was just held in London. Alas, their dragons are even worse.
Actually the unnamed source was Information Today President & CEO Tom Hogan who at the opening keynote said our attendance was 20% down from our record year last year. Unlike many conference organizers, Tom let everyone know that the current economic conditions have affected our audience too. Out of the last 8 years our attendance this year, which is 1,245, is the third largest audience at Internet Librarian.
